Hunted by a Demon's Vow

I finished the ARC of Hunted by a Demon's Vow by AN Caudle.  I did not enjoy this one.  I didn't hate it either but I certainly didn't love it.  I found it too gruesome and violent for my taste.  I suppose I should have picked up on how violent it would be from the book blurb but I wasn't expecting the imagery and the depictions of the sounds to be that detailed.  The plot was fairly predictable but the pacing was good.  Everything moved along nicely.  I liked the book enough to keep reading and see how the story progressed.  The spice was quite good.  The FMC Vaenah gets voted for by her town to be a sacrifice for the hunt.  The MMC is her twin brother's best friend who is a demon.  Demon's look like human men but must blend in.  There is a society that rules over the demons.  They can't reveal they are demons to human or else both the human and demon are put to death.  Daemon the MMC doesn't care for the status quo and absolutely hates the Hunt.  He initially refuses his invitation to participate but after Vaenah is chosen and taken to the island where it happens he kills another demon to take his slot.  He then tracks down Vaenah on the island and protects her.  But not before several of the other women are slaughtered either in earshot of her or right before her eyes.  There are more deaths depicted but I don't want to spoil anything more.  It was just a bit too much for me personally.  This book is a standalone but is the first in a multi-author series.  I will not be reading any more of them and I don't think I'll be reading anything more this author has written even though Worthy of Fate is on my TBR.  I am still glad I read this book.  I've been pushing the boundaries with what I read trying to find what I like and what gives me the ick.  Well, I found the line I don't like to cross.  Coerced/nonconsentual sex, torture and dismemberment is that line.  It was still a well written book with a good plot outside of everything else, it just leaned a bit too horror for my liking.  It will be released April 23rd.

YOP: Week 29

    The fair was a success.  My items did well and Liara got some ribbons as well.  We went to the parade on Tuesday, then down to the grounds once it was over.  We stopped by one local vender to grab some jewelry, grabbed some donuts from the Donut Diner then went to see how we placed.  Liara entered earrings that she hand-made with clay.  They did not place.  She entered a beaded bracelet that got first. She also entered three of her drawings.  A Pegasus, a bunny and a magical worm.  The bunny and the worm received third and the Pegasus received second.   The bunny is my personal favorite of all the drawings she's done.  There is always a really good turn out in the drawing and photography categories, so she was up against some stiff competition.  I'm really happy she received some ribbons. Year of Projects: Week 53; El Fin.

      I thought I'd do a quick review of my Year of Projects.  I started participating around week 5 so I'm summing up my year from that point to present.  I have 24 project entries on Ravelry.  (If I do several dishcloths back-to-back, I usually only make one project entry, so there are more than 24 individual finished items.  Direct Link to Goal Post:  YOP first post   I finished: -3 pairs of fingerless mitts -2 pairs of mittens -2 pairs of socks -5 hats -2 cowls -2 baby blankets -16 dishcloths -1 potholder -1 shawl I have one sock that's going to be frogged and half of another dishcloth that's sitting around because I ran out of that colorway of yarn.  I do have a few other WIPs still hanging about from prior to August of last year.  (We're going to keep pretending they don't exist.) YOP: Week 35

    Not much to report this week.  I didn't do much crafting.  I finished the swap, got it packaged up and mailed out.  It should have arrived to my recipient yesterday.  I'll share what I made.  The theme was Favorite Things.  She likes the colors pale yellow and deep dark red and dragons, so I went all out with the dragons.  I chose  Dragon Scale Mitts  for the handmade item.  I used Madeline Tosh Sport in the Tart colorway.   My camera doesn't really do this colorway justice.  It has more depth in real life.  I think they came out nicely though. I was able to find dragon fabric at The Quilt Shop.  I made a reversible project bag. I paired each dragon fabric with one of her favorite colors.  Liara really liked the dragon fabric as well.  I'm probably going to get some more when I go again.  I also sent some stationary items and a bunch of Swedish Fish, which were also things she had req...
