YOP: Week 35

Not much to report this week.  I didn't do much crafting.  I finished the swap, got it packaged up and mailed out.  It should have arrived to my recipient yesterday.  I'll share what I made.  The theme was Favorite Things.  She likes the colors pale yellow and deep dark red and dragons, so I went all out with the dragons.  I chose Dragon Scale Mitts for the handmade item.  I used Madeline Tosh Sport in the Tart colorway.

My camera doesn't really do this colorway justice.  It has more depth in real life.  I think they came out nicely though.

I was able to find dragon fabric at The Quilt Shop.  I made a reversible project bag.

I paired each dragon fabric with one of her favorite colors.  Liara really liked the dragon fabric as well.  I'm probably going to get some more when I go again.  I also sent some stationary items and a bunch of Swedish Fish, which were also things she had requested.  I've signed up for the next swap as well which is the Halloween Mini swap.  Halloween is my favorite holiday so this is a swap I look forward to each year.  We've managed to have a Halloween swap I think for the last three or four years.

I didn't end up doing any sewing this week.  I did a few more things in the garden.  I took out my first batch of peas.  Most of them had already died down so I ripped them all out.  When I checked the beans yesterday I noticed the second batch of peas is flowering and I have two pods coming already, so I will be getting some more peas.  The corn is nearly done.  I have two or three small cobbs still coming and that's it.  So I'll be cutting that corn down probably this week or next.  The tomatoes are virtually over.  I have one more heirloom coming and that's it for those as well.  It's all well and good, the kids go back to school Tuesday.  I'm starting to make plans for next year.  I should write down my thoughts.  That's about it for me this week.  Until later.

  1. Thank you for all the garden news. It is really too hot to garden here where I live now, but I grew up working on a farm and in the garden. It is always nice to read about fresh homegrown produce.

  2. What a cute project bag. Do you make them different sizes? I do have small ones for socks, medium ones for tees, and large ones for sweaters.
For someone who claims not to hate winter, I still get depressed as garden centers close. It's a thrill in the spring when they open and put out brightly colored flowering plants. So it's sad to me as they shut down. Mums are the final plants and those are what are out now. But the cooler days sure are nice for weeding out my flower beds. After the monarchs leave, I'll be pulling all the milkweed stalks (the caterpillers ate all the leaves).

    1. I do make different sizes. The pattern I use for this particular bag included directions to size it up. This one is made from a 16x16 inch square. I've done as small as 12 inches and as large as 20 inches. I really like the 16.

  3. The project bag is awesome. I am sure your swap person was thrilled with her dragon themed items. Your garden did well for you this year.

YOP: Week 30 Lewis County Fair 24

I wanted to do a quick update about the Fair.  We kept it really low key this year.  I entered 10 items into the fair and we only went one day to just look around.  We refrained from rides and excessive amounts of fair food.  So, onto my entries: I entered: a sewn tote bag, which I think I blogged about a few weeks ago.  It got first place then went on to win Best in Show. Sewn Tote with Best in Show ribbon I also entered the beaded shawl I finished in June, that also won a blue ribbon and went on to receive Best in Show. Beaded Holden mixed among other Best in Show items Six of my other items also won blue ribbons: Liara's socks Mandy Cowl Killer Queen Cowl Clean Windmill Dishcloth set Sacket's Harbor Mittens and Drops of Spring Fingerless Mitts The second place ribbon I received for my Hum Beanie is also in this picture.  Then I received third place for Sunset Hat. The first and second place entries for this class are in this picture ...

YOP: Week 52

As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025.  After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines.  When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns.  I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns.  I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible.  I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.     I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025.  I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition.  I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year.  So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025: - Butterfly--Papillon  with Urth Ya...

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...
