March Reading Wrap-Up

March was an excellent month for me.  All six of my completed reads were 5 stars.  A Flickering Remnant is such a beautiful story.  It's a fantasy romance that has a Gothic feeling to it.  It's got maternal mental health representation, a curse, an elemental magic system, witches, some amazing found family, a ton of mystery and it's absolutely beautifully written as well.  I loved it so much I bought myself a signed copy.  Sheltered Fate was just plain fun.  It was book three in a series of interconnected stand alones.  It's what all monster romance should be, in my opinion.  The Troll MMC was a kind and gentle cinnamon roll.  I enjoyed this one so much I abandoned all other responsibility and read the first book in the series too.  Fresh-Brewed Fate was also just plain fun.  It was more adventurous and the world was a little bigger but again the Orc MMC was another cinnamon roll.  I rounded out my month by starting the great LJ Andrews Read-a-thon.  This readathon will be going on through October and all but one novella will be re-reads for me.  I love this author and these two series.  At this point they're all comfort reads to me.  These characters and this world is so amazing.  It's like hanging out with friends and family.  If my family and friends were dark brooding sometimes violent Vikings.

I have had my first ARC failure.  I didn't finish Demons for Breakfast before it's release date.  In fact I haven't finished it all.  I just could not really get into this one.  I did push myself to make it to 68% before I set it aside to get to my other deadlines.  It's not a bad book by any means.  The story was interesting and the characters were fun, I just wasn't wrapping my head around all the plant and mineral references.  It was a lot and it just wasn't gripping me.  I might try to get back to it at some point but not right now.

I've started my April ARC reading already and I'm very much enjoying The Last Guardian so far.  More on that later!  I received the ARC of Winds of Ruin which is the final book in the Legends of Henosis series by Mariet Kay.  I've been looking forward to this one for months now and was sooo over the moon when I received the ARC.  I'm debating weather or not to re-read the first two book in the series first or just jump into Winds of Ruin.  I have another ARC that releases the very next day and book five of The Beast of the Briar, Frozen by Stardust releases the day before Winds of Ruin.  I pre-ordered a physical copy of that one.  Then I have one more ARC at the end of April and more Broken Kingdoms books to read.... its going to be another busy reading month.

YOP: Week 36

I didn't get any crafting done this week.  I did receive my swap package from the My Favorite Things swap.  Here's what I received: An ample stack of fabric squares.  Most are knitting related, the rest coordinate well.  A book that looks interesting, The Vampire Knitting Club, one of my favorite candies, a skein of Alpaca yarn in a glorious color and cat chair feet.  My daughter commandeered a couple of them already.  I'm going to put a set on the clothes chair in the bedroom.  All in all it was a fun swap.  I also signed up for the Halloween Mini and got my partner assignment.  I've got some ideas brewing for that one.      Since my knitting mojo still hasn't returned despite the change in weather, I picked up a book (kindle) series instead.  About two years ago I read an excellent science fiction romance; The Viridian Priestess.  I know I talked about it.  It was my favorite boo...

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...

YOP: Week 35

Not much to report this week.  I didn't do much crafting.  I finished the swap, got it packaged up and mailed out.  It should have arrived to my recipient yesterday.  I'll share what I made.  The theme was Favorite Things.  She likes the colors pale yellow and deep dark red and dragons, so I went all out with the dragons.  I chose  Dragon Scale Mitts  for the handmade item.  I used Madeline Tosh Sport in the Tart colorway.   My camera doesn't really do this colorway justice.  It has more depth in real life.  I think they came out nicely though. I was able to find dragon fabric at The Quilt Shop.  I made a reversible project bag. I paired each dragon fabric with one of her favorite colors.  Liara really liked the dragon fabric as well.  I'm probably going to get some more when I go again.  I also sent some stationary items and a bunch of Swedish Fish, which were also things she had req...
