Year of Projects: Week 11

I'm actually updating on a Sunday for once!  I don't have too much to update, so it'll be short and sweet.  I had mentioned that I washed and blocked the Drops of Spring Mitts.  I got them off the blockers and took a couple decent pictures outside in good light.  So here they are all finished. I used the smallest size of the three blockers.  The middle size stretched the fabric too much.  Blocking really evened these out and even though I didn't toss these in the dryer to spring the super-wash Mal Rios back into shape it sproinged back all on its own.                        I need to weigh these yet so I can figure out approximate yardage used, but my guess is its not really much of either of the three colors.  I hope to do at least one more pair of these.  I have so many little mini left-over skeins, its a great pattern to get those used up.     I made homemade pi...

Year of Projects: Week 10

It's already been a busy week as I predicted.  On Wednesday after I left for work, this happened. She is from my parents farm.  We all kind of had an eye on her for awhile now.  The kids have been wearing me down for months.  I've been calling her Nyx, but I don't know if that will be the final name.  She and Jangles have been playing like crazy.  Everyone else has accepted her pretty decently as well.  Reese and Tali, who hate everyone except eachother,  have been just avoiding her mostly.  Edi is fairly indifferent, although I think she may be a little jealous as she and Jangles played together quite a bit.  Nyx already prances around her like she owns the place, so all in all it's been a pretty smooth introductory period.      Jangles got out again and luckily came back again.  The screen has been put back on the garage window so there should be no more escaping cats.  We were p...

Year of Projects: Week 9

I actually had a fairly productive week.  Not so much on the crafting front as the cooking and baking one.  But that's okay.  Saturday I stopped and did my grocery shopping at my halfway point.  I even remembered to get most of the things my husband had mentioned throughout the week.  I came home to squishy mail.  I started acquiring the yarn for my next long term project.  I got two skeins of Wool-Ease from a Rav destash.  I think half the fun of these long projects is getting the yarn.  This will be for that modular hexagon blanket I have on my list.    When I got up Sunday morning I went about using some things in the fridge.  I had some potatoes left over from the get together we did a few weeks back, so I made  Cheeseburger Soup .  I made it once before, or something really similar.  It a good one that reheats well.  I keep "better than bouillon" in my fridge so I don't have to keep...

Year of Projects: Week 7

I finished two more dishcloths and got the ends woven in on the little pile of 5 total that I made from this pattern since the 1st of the month.  I procrastinate very badly when it comes to simple finishing.  I usually have a stack of things that need a small seam, to have the ends woven in or needs a quick steam block.  A couple weeks ago, I went through my pile and seamed up a whole stack of dishcloths and trimmed ends.  I had the ends woven in but I didn't trim them.  The worst part of that is I keep a thread snipper in the same notions pouch as my tapestry needles, so it's not like I even needed to move to get the snips.  So here are the other two cloths.  I did do a candy corn colored one and I love it! I grabbed whatever scraps I had in the project bag at the time and did this last one with those while I was watching TV one night. I think out of all of them the black, white and orange one is my favorite.  Here's the litt...

Year of Projects: Week 6

I dont have too much to report on the completion front.  I'm working overnights for this contract and I just have no energy.  I tend to stay on my night schedule on my days off and sleep all the rest of the time.  I have been working on some dishcloths.  I pretty much always have a couple going.  I really should have put that on my list of projects for this year.  I've been looking back through past project pages and I'm knitting a few patterns again that I liked knitting the first time.  In the case of the ones I've just done, I've knit these many many times.  The pattern is  Tricolour Dishcloth .  It's in my top 5 dishcloth patterns of all time.  I have the pattern memorized and I enjoy it very much.  It takes three colors and doesnt use much yarn.  It's great for using up small scraps. Its also got a ton of texture, so its very scrubby.  I need to weave in the ends yet but here are the three I did in the last ...

Year of Projects

I've decided to join the Year of Projects group on Ravelry.  This group has been around for quite some time and run the year from July of one year to July of the next.  Since its just the beginning of August I won't be too far behind.  Here's to some writing and crafting motivation for the next 40 something weeks.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up the weekly motivation but I'm certainly going to shoot for monthly and go from there.  First things first a list of projects that I'll most likely add to as the year goes on. New Projects: - White Whiskers  colorwork hat.  I have yarn and needles in a project bag ready to go. - Drops of Spring Mitts  colorwork fingerless mitts.  I have a bunch of small leftover balls of Malabrigo Rios I want to use for these. - Artyarns lys 2023 shawl  lacy shawl.  I got the yarn and pattern in a "kit" from Yarn Cupboard on LYS day.   - Modular Cable Afghan  Next l...
