Leather & Lark

5 ★ 2🌶

I finished Leather & Lark by Brynne Weaver on Friday.  I enjoyed this one as much if not more than the first book.  This one didn't seem as spicy as the first but when the spice finally did happen it was pretty drawn out.  I enjoyed the characters in this one immensely.  The two meet at a party and really hit it off, then discover they've met before and their actual first meeting did not go well.  The MMC had triggered the FMC's PTSD and there was other fallout from their first meeting.  The two characters get inconveniently paired off together and the MMC spends the rest of the book redeeming himself from being a continual "asshat".  The FMC also has a ton of stuff to work through and Lachlan actually sees she's struggling and helps out.  They slowly fall for each other and Lark starts revealing her true self to Lachlan over time, something she hasn't even been able to do with her best friend Sloan, the FMC from the previous book.  Both Sloan and Rowan make appearances in this book as well.  Brynne Weaver is such a great author, I really enjoy all the banter she includes in these books as well as the pop culture references, specifically the Keanu Reeves and Constantine ones.  I enjoyed Lark's extended family and getting to know Aunt Ethel.  She reminded me of my late grandmother alot.  This book made me laugh and cry and I didn't figure out who exactly the "bad guy" was until it was revealed.  I'm looking forward to reading the third book in the trilogy.

I've started Shot in the Dark by Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley.  This is loosely based on the world of Supernatural.  It's described at dark urban fiction.  I've been meaning to read it for a while now.  I'm only a chapter or two in but it's interesting so far.  One of the main characters is a fairy so all that goes through my head when I'm reading this book is Dean shouting to Sam "Fight the fairies Sam!"  That's it for now.  I'll post my November wrap up with my next review post.  Happy reading.

YOP: Week 36

I didn't get any crafting done this week.  I did receive my swap package from the My Favorite Things swap.  Here's what I received: An ample stack of fabric squares.  Most are knitting related, the rest coordinate well.  A book that looks interesting, The Vampire Knitting Club, one of my favorite candies, a skein of Alpaca yarn in a glorious color and cat chair feet.  My daughter commandeered a couple of them already.  I'm going to put a set on the clothes chair in the bedroom.  All in all it was a fun swap.  I also signed up for the Halloween Mini and got my partner assignment.  I've got some ideas brewing for that one.      Since my knitting mojo still hasn't returned despite the change in weather, I picked up a book (kindle) series instead.  About two years ago I read an excellent science fiction romance; The Viridian Priestess.  I know I talked about it.  It was my favorite boo...

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...

YOP: Week 52

As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025.  After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines.  When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns.  I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns.  I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible.  I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.     I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025.  I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition.  I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year.  So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025: - Butterfly--Papillon  with Urth Ya...
