YOP: Week 30

I didn't have a very eventful crafting week.  My time was limited and I think the weather is affecting my knitting mojo.  I had to work last weekend so my husband picked up the items from the fair along with the help of our daughter.  It looks as though she was supposed to get a first place ribbon for her earrings but they forgot to attach the ribbon, or it was attached and fell off.  I'll get an official notification in the mail with our winnings in a few weeks.

My garden was looking really good, the peppers and carrots had almost completely regrown.  I made the comment to myself Saturday evening when I was watering everything that "oh wow its all looking really good."  My parents came over for lunch Sunday so I took my mom over to see the garden.  We've been busy so they haven't been over since we put in the raised beds.  Well, the joke was on me.  The deer or whatever it is came back and decimated the peppers and carrots again.  Ugh.  We had left the four-wheeler under the maple tree instead of right beside the raised beds for one night.  On an upside; the lettuce and peas I planted a week ago have both come up and as of right now are doing well.

Yesterday, instead of blogging, I started working on the tote bag for my co-worker.  I could have finished it last night but I've ordered some custom tags to put in my sewing.  I'm waiting til they arrive to finish the bag.  But here's a peak:

I'm making some modifications to the pattern.  I did a welt pocket on the inside and I made the sectioned pocket larger to hold pens instead of needles since Nancy doesn't fiber craft.  I'm quite happy with how the welt pocket came out.  This used up my alpaca fabric almost completely, I have some small scraps left.  I need to find a new place to get cute fabric prints.

The end of last week was crazy.  We had a "surprise" inspection from Joint Commission.  It was routine as we were within our window.  The notification was sent but never made it to the lab so we had no idea and had to scramble to prepare everything they wanted to look at.  Overall we did well, with some minor infractions, a couple of which we were able to correct during the inspection.  That's it from me, until later, happy crafting.

  1. I'm groaning imagining finding the deer having decimated your peppers and carrots again. My nemesis was bunnies in the spring, but it appears they've finally decided to leave my green bean plants alone. Love the bag! And the alpaca fabric. :)

  2. Naughty deer. I am dealing with squirrels that keep eating my flowering plants. Grrrr. Your sewn bags look amazing.

  4. Ugh. And now you know why my hubby gave up gardening in our yard. Now we only do deck pots and still some critters get to the tomatoes before we do!! Congrats on all your fair wins!

  5. I am so lucky I only have to worry about slugs, snails and caterpillars munching mine...they certainly munch things slower than a deer would. LOVE the combination of fabrics you've selected for the bag. Liz (highlandheffalump)

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...

YOP: Week 52

As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025.  After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines.  When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns.  I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns.  I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible.  I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.     I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025.  I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition.  I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year.  So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025: - Butterfly--Papillon  with Urth Ya...

YOP: Week 35

Not much to report this week.  I didn't do much crafting.  I finished the swap, got it packaged up and mailed out.  It should have arrived to my recipient yesterday.  I'll share what I made.  The theme was Favorite Things.  She likes the colors pale yellow and deep dark red and dragons, so I went all out with the dragons.  I chose  Dragon Scale Mitts  for the handmade item.  I used Madeline Tosh Sport in the Tart colorway.   My camera doesn't really do this colorway justice.  It has more depth in real life.  I think they came out nicely though. I was able to find dragon fabric at The Quilt Shop.  I made a reversible project bag. I paired each dragon fabric with one of her favorite colors.  Liara really liked the dragon fabric as well.  I'm probably going to get some more when I go again.  I also sent some stationary items and a bunch of Swedish Fish, which were also things she had req...
