YOP: Week 40

Quick update from me.  I've been working on the Boo Knits Halloween MKAL, so no pictures I can share yet.  I'm not quite finished with the first clue yet.  I got sidetracked by a unit project for the Communications class.  I hope to finish clue 1 when I get home from work today.

I returned my defective yarn winder and the new one I ordered arrived yesterday.  I grabbed a couple hanks of yarn I intend to knit soonish to test it out.  The gear is totally enclosed, the yarn guide has two selectable positions but doesn't pivot so there is no possibility of it falling.  The winder itself has more range on its clamp and can clamp quite tightly to whatever table I choose to use.  It wound the two hanks I grabbed with ease, and it was smooth and quiet.  I'm much happier with this one.

That's really it from me.  It was a busy work week and any extra time I've had has been spent on the MKAL.  Until later, happy crafting.

  1. Just caught up on last week's post to see what was wrong with your winder. That sounded like a pain. Glad you have one that works well for you now. Have a good week, Q!

  2. So glad the new winder is working well for you. What kind did you get? Mine is starting to make quite a bit of noise. Not to mention. Winding a 4oz skein of worsted is precarious towards the end of winding.

  4. Glad you found a ball winder. It does make knitting life so much better. Best wishes in Communications class. You still amaze me with your going back to college!!!!

  5. There’s something so satisfying about winding a cake of yarn when there’s no snags, no collapsing swifts and the winder not falling off the table. So glad your new set is working well. Will we need to wait until Halloween for the big reveal of the secret project? Liz (Highlandheffalump)

YOP: Week 29

The fair was a success.  My items did well and Liara got some ribbons as well.  We went to the parade on Tuesday, then down to the grounds once it was over.  We stopped by one local vender to grab some jewelry, grabbed some donuts from the Donut Diner then went to see how we placed.  Liara entered earrings that she hand-made with clay.  They did not place.  She entered a beaded bracelet that got first. She also entered three of her drawings.  A Pegasus, a bunny and a magical worm.  The bunny and the worm received third and the Pegasus received second.   The bunny is my personal favorite of all the drawings she's done.  There is always a really good turn out in the drawing and photography categories, so she was up against some stiff competition.  I'm really happy she received some ribbons. My items are as follows: Rotini Beanie; First Enchantress MKAL; First. Sunburst Potholder; Second.  Cow and Hen Dishcloth set; ...

Year of Projects: Week 53; El Fin.

I thought I'd do a quick review of my Year of Projects.  I started participating around week 5 so I'm summing up my year from that point to present.  I have 24 project entries on Ravelry.  (If I do several dishcloths back-to-back, I usually only make one project entry, so there are more than 24 individual finished items.  Direct Link to Goal Post:  YOP first post   I finished: -3 pairs of fingerless mitts -2 pairs of mittens -2 pairs of socks -5 hats -2 cowls -2 baby blankets -16 dishcloths -1 potholder -1 shawl I have one sock that's going to be frogged and half of another dishcloth that's sitting around because I ran out of that colorway of yarn.  I do have a few other WIPs still hanging about from prior to August of last year.  (We're going to keep pretending they don't exist.) I made a simple little picture "movie" of my projects, enjoy: As far as my quickly thrown together list: I completed 3/5 of my projected projects......

YOP: Week 35

Not much to report this week.  I didn't do much crafting.  I finished the swap, got it packaged up and mailed out.  It should have arrived to my recipient yesterday.  I'll share what I made.  The theme was Favorite Things.  She likes the colors pale yellow and deep dark red and dragons, so I went all out with the dragons.  I chose  Dragon Scale Mitts  for the handmade item.  I used Madeline Tosh Sport in the Tart colorway.   My camera doesn't really do this colorway justice.  It has more depth in real life.  I think they came out nicely though. I was able to find dragon fabric at The Quilt Shop.  I made a reversible project bag. I paired each dragon fabric with one of her favorite colors.  Liara really liked the dragon fabric as well.  I'm probably going to get some more when I go again.  I also sent some stationary items and a bunch of Swedish Fish, which were also things she had req...
