Year of Projects: Week 12

I had a fairly busy crafting week.  Procrastination at its finest.  I realized over the weekend I needed to get cracking if I wanted to finish up some gifts for my coworkers.  A bit ago I made a Cable Me a Pumpkin Hat for Cara's unborn son.
I wanted to make a hat for Bobby's daughter who's about a month old now.  I have a bin of baby acrylic from my early knitting days.  Most of it isn't even entered into my Ravelry stash.  When I was digging through it I found some Bernat Baby Blanket yarn I forgot I even had.  I made a Poppy hat for Bobby's daughter.
Then I started on two blankets.  I didn't use patterns, just winged it.  I made a corner to corner in boys colors.
I had a bit more girly colors so I did a larger one with the girly yarn.  (I was also trying to use up as much yarn as I could.)
I did a very simple eyelet border around the edges.  I didn't finish the girly blanket til after I went back to work but I had gotten most of it done Tuesday, so I was able to finish it up Thursday morning.  Both Cara and Bobby seemed pleased with the gifts.  I'm going to miss a lot of the people from my Rochester contract.  But I won't miss that drive, especially with winter coming.
On Wednesday I had a very minor outpatient procedure.  I've had a pilar cyst on top of my head in my hair for a number of years now.  It wasn't huge but it got stabbed when I was getting hilights once and since its been open and ooozy.  Well as of Wednesday its gone.  I apparently bled a lot more than they expected, but it went otherwise well for me.  I have to return to get my sutures out.
Today I started another pair of Drops of Spring mitts.  I finished one and started a second, but I've run out of Vaa completely.  I do have a full skein that I'm going to have to break into to finish these.  I added 5 more rounds to the top as I like a longer mitt.  I like how these colors play together.  I still have one more color combo I want to do.
I think that's about it for crafting this week.  I've been reading again over the past few weeks.  It's been so long since I made time to read a book.  I missed it more than I realized.  I read a spicy science fiction book that was phenomenal.  The Viridian Priestess by Katrina Calandra.  It was soooo good.  Amazing world building, dark and mysterious male main character, humor, friendships.  I had withdrawl for a few days afterward so I'm currently re-reading Sunshine by Robin McKinley.  Its a no spice vampire book.  Robin is such an amazing author.  I think she could make a phone book interesting.  Alrighty I think that's it for me this week.
Until later.  Happy crafting!

  4. Those baby hats are adorable. Baby blankets are such a fabulous way to use up yarn. I agree with you about making the mitts a bit longer than asked for. I figure I can always fold it if I want it shorter.

Year of Projects: Week 45

No post last week as we were all down with a nasty stomach bug.  I finally started feeling better on Friday.  I didn't get very much done because of it.  I didn't even get out of bed last Sunday.  I was able to finish the  Sunset Hat .   I think it turned out nicely.  I was worried the Glitter and the Sunset colorways would be too similar, which is why I put the English Rose in between them, but I think the combo works pretty well.  I finished up one more dish cloth; another Star Fish type so I won't post another identical picture.  I've made one more dishcloth since the Nerdopolis tournament ended on the 30th.  We're in a break month now.  I had hoped to get a few rows done on my Holden shawl, but that didn't happen.  I'm going to try to get it done this month.     There is a fiber festival in June, the CNY Fiber Fest, so I'm starting to plan for that.  I went last year and it was very fun....

YOP: Week 30 Lewis County Fair 24

I wanted to do a quick update about the Fair.  We kept it really low key this year.  I entered 10 items into the fair and we only went one day to just look around.  We refrained from rides and excessive amounts of fair food.  So, onto my entries: I entered: a sewn tote bag, which I think I blogged about a few weeks ago.  It got first place then went on to win Best in Show. Sewn Tote with Best in Show ribbon I also entered the beaded shawl I finished in June, that also won a blue ribbon and went on to receive Best in Show. Beaded Holden mixed among other Best in Show items Six of my other items also won blue ribbons: Liara's socks Mandy Cowl Killer Queen Cowl Clean Windmill Dishcloth set Sacket's Harbor Mittens and Drops of Spring Fingerless Mitts The second place ribbon I received for my Hum Beanie is also in this picture.  Then I received third place for Sunset Hat. The first and second place entries for this class are in this picture ...

YOP: Week 39

In anticipation of the Boo Knits MKAL starting on October 1st I got out my Dye For Yarn so I could wind it with my new yarn winder.  I quickly found that the winder I chose is a piece of crap.  The yarn guide doesn't stay in place and drops while winding which feeds the yarn directly into the open gears.  The spindle base also isn't large enough to accommodate 100 gram skeins.  It is nice and quiet and it didn't roll backward when I had to stop often because the yarn wasn't cooperating with me either.  The hank was extra twisted and crinkly in one spot so it kept getting stuck on itself and needed to be teased apart.  Overall it was a very negative winding experience.  I just went back to Amazon to read the reviews on the winder to see if it was just my winder.  Nope, each review said the same thing.  I'm not sure why I didn't think to read the reviews before I ordered this one, I usually do.  I have a different winde...
