Year of Projects: Week 10

It's already been a busy week as I predicted.  On Wednesday after I left for work, this happened.
She is from my parents farm.  We all kind of had an eye on her for awhile now.  The kids have been wearing me down for months.  I've been calling her Nyx, but I don't know if that will be the final name.  She and Jangles have been playing like crazy.  Everyone else has accepted her pretty decently as well.  Reese and Tali, who hate everyone except eachother,  have been just avoiding her mostly.  Edi is fairly indifferent, although I think she may be a little jealous as she and Jangles played together quite a bit.  Nyx already prances around her like she owns the place, so all in all it's been a pretty smooth introductory period.

Jangles got out again and luckily came back again.  The screen has been put back on the garage window so there should be no more escaping cats.  We were planning on making some sort of insulted cat house for Twinks the outdoor cat.  Now that we took away his garage access we are definitely making him a structure.  But we don't have to worry about cold weather yet.
Liara had a good first day of school.  We actually had a heat advisory yesterday.  I never remember the first day of school being this warm and still buggy.  We waited for the bus on the front porch, it was already hot at 8AM and we still got mobbed by mosquitos, it was unreal.
Today is supposed to be even hotter.
So in my last post I mentioned a swap package, well here it is:
I received two bags, point protectors, buttons, yarn, blank note cards, a book of postcards, a cat necklace and gummy bears.  The postcards are especially cool because I get to color them in first.  I've only recently found I like to color.  The yarn is Malabrigo Rios in the Matisse Blue colorway.  Malabrigo is hands down my favorite yarn brand.
I haven't done any new crafting yet this week.  I did get the ends woven in on that other fingerless mitt.  Then I washed and blocked them with my new mitten blockers.  The Sunset bled like crazy, but I knew it would.  I used that same yarn for my Sophie Shawl and the color was bleeding onto my fingers as I was knitting it.  I have yet to wash that piece.  I haven't mustered up the energy to deal with the bleeding problem yet.
I have done a fair amount of cooking so far this week.  I did up the chicken on Monday in the rotisserie.  We got the Showtime rotisserie at a garage sale soon after we moved in.  We've used it several times.  Its not worth whatever they were charging new, but it works great for chicken and I'm glad my husband snagged it.  I sadly don't have pictures of the chicken because we absolutely annihilated that thing on Monday.  It turned out really good.  I used Lowrey's chicken and poultry rub for the seasoning.  Tuesday I took the carcass and made a simple chicken and rice soup.  This time I was careful about how much I made.  I've got just enough for work this week.  Liara wanted tacos for dinner on her first day of school so that's what we had last evening.  My plan is to do pizza tonight.  I picked up BJs store brand pizza sauce and name brand fresh mozzarella when I was there.  I've not tried either before, so dinner is going to be an expirament.  I use the dough setting on my bread machine to make this dough recipe: pizza dough.  We have a pizza stone that is rated for the grill, so we do it on that.  The pizza stone was a huge game changer for us.  It really makes a  significant difference in the crust consistency and flavor.  I got mine off Amazon and it was under $40.  If I had to limit the extra cooking items in my house for some reason, the pizza stone would be at the top of my "to keep" list.  I'll try to remember to take pictures.
I've got two quick projects I want to get done in the next few weeks.  With it being so hot I haven't really had much of a desire to knit, so we'll see.

Until later.  Happy Crafting!!!

  1. Wishing your daughter a great school year. I can't believe I'm no longer on a school schedule although with my son being a teacher while still living at home, maybe I still am. Your yarn swap looks great. I did one a few years back. It was fun but once was enough.

    1. I love doing swaps. It's rare for me to not be involved with at least one at any given time.

Year of Projects: Week 45

No post last week as we were all down with a nasty stomach bug.  I finally started feeling better on Friday.  I didn't get very much done because of it.  I didn't even get out of bed last Sunday.  I was able to finish the  Sunset Hat .   I think it turned out nicely.  I was worried the Glitter and the Sunset colorways would be too similar, which is why I put the English Rose in between them, but I think the combo works pretty well.  I finished up one more dish cloth; another Star Fish type so I won't post another identical picture.  I've made one more dishcloth since the Nerdopolis tournament ended on the 30th.  We're in a break month now.  I had hoped to get a few rows done on my Holden shawl, but that didn't happen.  I'm going to try to get it done this month.     There is a fiber festival in June, the CNY Fiber Fest, so I'm starting to plan for that.  I went last year and it was very fun....

Knit Crochet Blog Week Day One

Day One (Monday 11th May): If You Were Yarn. If you were a type or brand of yarn, which would you be? Are you a classic pure wool? Is there extra tension but a bit of bounce in you because of your high twist? Would you be more like a high-maintenance, strictly hand-wash fluffy angora or a ‘bring it on’ acrylic, bravely heading into the world of possible baby-sick laundering disasters knowing that you will always come out bright and unharmed?      If I had been asked this question back in January of 2014 I think my answer would be very different from the one I'm about to give today.  Since that time I have started my second new job and have moved my entire household to a smaller city.  Granted the move was what I wanted, but there has been a transition period for me after leaving everything I'd known and become accustomed to behind after 12 years.  I've made new friends twice, gotten used to different policie...

Year of Projects: Week 33

I started a pair of socks for myself.  I'm not good about checking gauge for anything.  So very quickly I realized the sock was looking very small.  I decided to keep going and make them for Liara instead.  I had her try it on after I turned the heel and it fit her perfectly.   I finished the first sock already.  The yarn is ONline Supersocke 100.  (This yarn and several other skeins were given to me by my Aunt Linda a few years before she passed away.)  I'm using a pattern from one of my physical pattern books.  One of my goals last year was to use more of my books.  I started out strong then tapered off through the year.  So I'm renewing that goal for this year.  It's the Handpaint Highlight Socks by Leah Oakley from the One Skein Wonders book.  I'm going to needle up a bit and still make a pair for myself.  I'm going to make them shortie socks though.  I think I'll have enough yarn for...
