Year of Projects

I've decided to join the Year of Projects group on Ravelry.  This group has been around for quite some time and run the year from July of one year to July of the next.  Since its just the beginning of August I won't be too far behind.  Here's to some writing and crafting motivation for the next 40 something weeks.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up the weekly motivation but I'm certainly going to shoot for monthly and go from there.  First things first a list of projects that I'll most likely add to as the year goes on.

New Projects:

-White Whiskers colorwork hat.  I have yarn and needles in a project bag ready to go.

-Drops of Spring Mitts colorwork fingerless mitts.  I have a bunch of small leftover balls of Malabrigo Rios I want to use for these.

-Artyarns lys 2023 shawl lacy shawl.  I got the yarn and pattern in a "kit" from Yarn Cupboard on LYS day.

-Modular Cable Afghan Next long term project, maybe.  I want to start accumulating the yarn for this one.  Either by getting Rav destashed yarn or by hitting up sales and slowly getting a few skeins at a time.

-Holden lacy triangle shawl.  I made one of these for our 10th wedding anniversary.  Our 20th will be in June 2024.  (Which is crazy to me.)  I still have another skein of Malabrigo Sock from the same shopping spree as the first shawl.  So I want to do this pattern again, with more beads and possibly make it a tad larger.  I might incorporate some of the leftover Mal Sock from my Find Your Fade.

Clean Up some WIPs:

-198 Yards of Heaven I need to completely frog this and start over.  I messed up the chart so terribly that it's not even shawl shaped.  The Noro Cash Iroha has been discontinued and I got it on a shopping trip with my aunt who has now passed on.  I'm going to concur this pattern if its the last thing I do.

-Over the Moon I recently found out this thing actually fits Liara, so I want to get it finished for her.  The poor thing just needs some sleeves.

-Hitofude This has been in my Summit Seekers Backpack for years now.  I need to figure out where I left off and get working on it again.

-Cabled Fingerless Gloves These are about half done, but I don't like the way the first one turned out.  I'm going to frog these and probably go with a different pattern entirely.  They're for Liara to go with her scarf, so I'll get her input.  I may try to modify Cabled Dad Mittens to work with the sport weight yarn.

Sewing Goals:

-Tote bag.  I have a few patterns/tutorials saved to Pinterest.  I've been wanting to try larger tote style bags with heavier material.  I'm not sure if my very basic sewing machine will be able to handle what I want, but I guess I'll find out.

-More projects bags.  One can never have too many.  I want to make a whole bunch for myself and maybe have a stockpile to grab from for Nerdopolis prizes or swaps.

Knitolutions:

-I like to set some arbitrary goals at the beginning of every calendar year.  This year one of my goals was to knit more patterns out of physical pattern books.  I think I've done 3 or 4 so far.  I would like to continue this, since I do have a whole stack of pattern books I don't tend to utilize.

-Organize "craft closet".  Along that same vein.  I want to further organize my craft space, which is a closet in this house.  I would like to put the pattern books in there so I have access to them and try to keep that small space organized, so I can get to the things I want without digging.

House Goals:

The projects involved with owning a house are endless.  Most of them fall into things that my husband needs to do, or be in charge of.  One of the few things I want to do myself or at least be involved in, is getting drawer pulls on the kitchen cabinets.  There are none at all on these cabinets and I've decided I want drawer pulls.  I think I've picked out something we both can live with.

I found these at Lowe's.  They are simple brushed nickel half circle pulls.  They'll go on both the drawers and cabinets.  There is nothing to catch clothing on.  (My husband's stipulation.)  They're modern and sleek looking and will compliment the stainless steel appliances.  (My stipulations.)  I just hope they look good with oak.  Now we need to purchase them and get them on the cabinets.  I would like to change out the hardware in the first bathroom eventually, as well.  What's there now is perfectly functional, just not my style.

Get a trampoline and put in an above ground pool.  I've wanted to get the kids a trampoline since we bought the house two years ago.  We've started looking into the logistics of getting a pool next year, hopefully at the beginning of the season.  I'm sure more house projects will come to mind.  We're still trying to get things organized and figured out two years after moving in.  Even though the house is only 18 years old, its seems as though no one did any real upkeep over those years.  So many things need to be replaced, updated or fixed properly.  We've already done a bunch, but there is so much more to go.

I look forward to sharing my progress on craft projects and house projects with everyone this upcoming year.

Until later.  Happy crafting!

YOP: Week 37

I didn't do any crafting what so ever this past week.  We had my parents and brother over for lunch on Sunday.  I cooked up some of the green beans from my garden that I had frozen.  They were very good.  We had a nice meal and it got one of the two turkeys out of the freezer.  When I was going to work Friday morning I noticed one of our neighbors had put a fridge or stand-up freezer out by the road with a free sign on it.  I called my husband immediately and told him where I had seen it.  He grabbed it right away.  It's an upright freezer from probably the 60s or 70s so it's solid.  We put it in the garage and moved the few things that were left in the "middle" chest to that one so the chest freezer could be defrosted and cleaned.  We're still waiting for the new one we ordered from Lowe's.  They know its been shipped but have no idea where it is.  At one point they thought it was in Pennsylvania; then they thoug...

YOP: Week 36

I didn't get any crafting done this week.  I did receive my swap package from the My Favorite Things swap.  Here's what I received: An ample stack of fabric squares.  Most are knitting related, the rest coordinate well.  A book that looks interesting, The Vampire Knitting Club, one of my favorite candies, a skein of Alpaca yarn in a glorious color and cat chair feet.  My daughter commandeered a couple of them already.  I'm going to put a set on the clothes chair in the bedroom.  All in all it was a fun swap.  I also signed up for the Halloween Mini and got my partner assignment.  I've got some ideas brewing for that one.      Since my knitting mojo still hasn't returned despite the change in weather, I picked up a book (kindle) series instead.  About two years ago I read an excellent science fiction romance; The Viridian Priestess.  I know I talked about it.  It was my favorite boo...

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...
