YOP: Week 34

My beads and yarn have arrived for the Boo Knits Halloween MKAL.  I'm very impressed with how fast the yarn arrived from Dye for Yarn which is in Germany.  It was shipped on the 19th and I received it yesterday.  I've never knit with Tussah Silk before so I'm excited to try something new.

My fancy edited photo of the yarn.

Raw photo with Edi supervising.  I believe she approved of the new yarn acquisition.

I decided to use my leftover yarn from Killer Queen Cowl to make some "companion" fingerless mitts.  I used the Drops of Spring pattern as my base pattern.  I've used it several times before with Mal Rios, so I knew it worked well.  I designed as I knit, so the mitts don't match each other, but that wasn't my intention anyway.  The cowl pattern is knit flat, and the mitts are in-the-round, so I had to do a little figuring out to make the stitch patterns work out.  Overall, it was fun, so I may experiment a little further to get matching mitts, then jot down a semblance of a pattern.

My class didn't start on Monday after all.  The professor didn't have the course set up in Brightspace.  I think there may have been a last-minute change to who was teaching the course, I'm not sure of details, but on Wednesday there was information, finally, that she had to set everything up and we would be starting tomorrow instead.  I looked today and I have access to the first few chapters of the textbook, so I've started reading.  This pre-req is my last required coursework for the program.  The other 6 credits I need are electives, so I'm really looking forward to getting this class out of the way.  I think though, Interpersonal Communication will actually help me in my future and the first chapter of the textbook made it sound interesting, so there's that.

I think that's about it for me.  I acquired a stationary bicycle a few weeks ago, so I've been trying to do a 30-minute session each day for the last few days.  The down-side of having a job where I don't run my butt off the entire shift is that I need to be active outside of work instead.  I've been slowly gaining weight since I came back home, so I need to do something.

Until later.  Happy crafting.

  1. Your silk yarn is beautiful!! Let me the color too. What a joy it will be to knit with it. Best wishes as class starts up again. Congrats on any exercise you get. I'm terrible at being consistent with exercise.

  2. Ooh that yarn is so pretty. Good to hear the class has finally started. There are some good YouTube people who do stationary cycling classes that are short and have good music, of course my stationary bike has become a clothes horse. 😂

  3. Oooh! I knit a shawl with Dye for You Tussagh Silk a couple years ago. Yummy! I love the color!

Year of Projects: Week 45

No post last week as we were all down with a nasty stomach bug.  I finally started feeling better on Friday.  I didn't get very much done because of it.  I didn't even get out of bed last Sunday.  I was able to finish the  Sunset Hat .   I think it turned out nicely.  I was worried the Glitter and the Sunset colorways would be too similar, which is why I put the English Rose in between them, but I think the combo works pretty well.  I finished up one more dish cloth; another Star Fish type so I won't post another identical picture.  I've made one more dishcloth since the Nerdopolis tournament ended on the 30th.  We're in a break month now.  I had hoped to get a few rows done on my Holden shawl, but that didn't happen.  I'm going to try to get it done this month.     There is a fiber festival in June, the CNY Fiber Fest, so I'm starting to plan for that.  I went last year and it was very fun....

Knit Crochet Blog Week Day One

Day One (Monday 11th May): If You Were Yarn. If you were a type or brand of yarn, which would you be? Are you a classic pure wool? Is there extra tension but a bit of bounce in you because of your high twist? Would you be more like a high-maintenance, strictly hand-wash fluffy angora or a ‘bring it on’ acrylic, bravely heading into the world of possible baby-sick laundering disasters knowing that you will always come out bright and unharmed?      If I had been asked this question back in January of 2014 I think my answer would be very different from the one I'm about to give today.  Since that time I have started my second new job and have moved my entire household to a smaller city.  Granted the move was what I wanted, but there has been a transition period for me after leaving everything I'd known and become accustomed to behind after 12 years.  I've made new friends twice, gotten used to different policie...

Year of Projects: Week 33

I started a pair of socks for myself.  I'm not good about checking gauge for anything.  So very quickly I realized the sock was looking very small.  I decided to keep going and make them for Liara instead.  I had her try it on after I turned the heel and it fit her perfectly.   I finished the first sock already.  The yarn is ONline Supersocke 100.  (This yarn and several other skeins were given to me by my Aunt Linda a few years before she passed away.)  I'm using a pattern from one of my physical pattern books.  One of my goals last year was to use more of my books.  I started out strong then tapered off through the year.  So I'm renewing that goal for this year.  It's the Handpaint Highlight Socks by Leah Oakley from the One Skein Wonders book.  I'm going to needle up a bit and still make a pair for myself.  I'm going to make them shortie socks though.  I think I'll have enough yarn for...
