2025 Reading Wrap-Up

I'm going to do a big year end post with all the summaries from the reading apps I use.  But first I want to do a best and worst by month.  So here goes.

September:

Best:

The Viridian Priestess.  This is the book that got me reading again two years ago.  It was a re-read once I found out there was a sequel and a third was coming out.  It was a 5 star read both times and a series that lives in my head rent free.

Worst:

Where the Tide Meets the Sand.  It's not a bad book by any means.  It just wasn't for me.  The more I thought about the story later the more it bothered me.  This author has a couple more books out but honestly I don't think I'll read any more of his writing.

October:

Best:
Reign of Stars and Fire.  This was book 8 in the Broken Kingdoms series and it was my favorite of the whole series.  It was gripping and tense and I loved the way it was written.

Worst:
October was a good month and I can't choose one to put in the "worst" category.

November:
Best:
In the Veins of the Drowning.  This book took me by surprise.  I never expected to like it as much as I did.  Again the story was gripping, well written and I wanted more when it ended.  I'll be re-reading this before the sequel comes out in July.  (July!?! do we really need to wait that long.)

Worst:
A Tongue so Sweet and Deadly.  This is the only book I DNF this year.  I've heard it gets good in the last 100 pages or so but I'm not reading 300 pages of a mediocre book to get to the good part.  I made it about 20% in and I wasn't feeling the characters or the writing so I moved on.

December:
Best:

Until I Die.  The ARC read that I haven't been able to get out of my mind since I read it.  The 6 star read that I dreamt about multiple nights.  The one that I've been plastering all over Instagram.... yeah that one.  It comes out January 6th as in Tuesday!!  I'm excited for everyone else to read this one.  It was soooo sooooo good.
Worst:

Speak.  This is just a train wreck.  I'm here for the vibes and honestly I'm still loving it despite the typos, lack of editing and the very loose plot.

It was horribly difficult to pick the best book from each month so honorable mention to Born of Starlight from September.  City of Snakes from October.  The Ruinous Love Trilogy: Butcher & Blackbird, Leather & Lark and Scythe & Sparrow that I read from November to December.

I'll do arbitrary awards too.
-Favorite new author/series for 2025 goes to Mariet Kay for the Legends of Henosis series.
-Most read author for 2025 goes to LJ Andrews.
-Favorite book boyfriend award goes to 99th Commander from the Viridian Priestess series.  Sorry Lucas, you were a very very close 2nd.

Alright so reading wrap-ups and stats from various sources:

I'm not sure which book Kindle thought was 1,109 pages because I know for sure I didn't read one that long.

I really loved the summary that Storygraph did so I shared the whole thing.  Here's the summary graphic as well:

This post is long enough as is, so I'll do a December wrap up by itself, I think.  Back to reading and Happy New Year!

YOP: Week 36

I didn't get any crafting done this week.  I did receive my swap package from the My Favorite Things swap.  Here's what I received: An ample stack of fabric squares.  Most are knitting related, the rest coordinate well.  A book that looks interesting, The Vampire Knitting Club, one of my favorite candies, a skein of Alpaca yarn in a glorious color and cat chair feet.  My daughter commandeered a couple of them already.  I'm going to put a set on the clothes chair in the bedroom.  All in all it was a fun swap.  I also signed up for the Halloween Mini and got my partner assignment.  I've got some ideas brewing for that one.      Since my knitting mojo still hasn't returned despite the change in weather, I picked up a book (kindle) series instead.  About two years ago I read an excellent science fiction romance; The Viridian Priestess.  I know I talked about it.  It was my favorite boo...

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...

YOP: Week 35

Not much to report this week.  I didn't do much crafting.  I finished the swap, got it packaged up and mailed out.  It should have arrived to my recipient yesterday.  I'll share what I made.  The theme was Favorite Things.  She likes the colors pale yellow and deep dark red and dragons, so I went all out with the dragons.  I chose  Dragon Scale Mitts  for the handmade item.  I used Madeline Tosh Sport in the Tart colorway.   My camera doesn't really do this colorway justice.  It has more depth in real life.  I think they came out nicely though. I was able to find dragon fabric at The Quilt Shop.  I made a reversible project bag. I paired each dragon fabric with one of her favorite colors.  Liara really liked the dragon fabric as well.  I'm probably going to get some more when I go again.  I also sent some stationary items and a bunch of Swedish Fish, which were also things she had req...
