YOP: Week 49

I have some crafting progress to report.  I've been slowly working on a mug rug for my next swap.  I have the knitting part complete I need to do some embroidery.

It's going to need blocking.  The cast on edge (at the top in this picture) want to fold over.  When I do some more of these I'm going to do a different cast on, this was a long tail.  I chose to weave the CC colors as I knit.  That first row of the lavender color turned out a bit wonky but so far its been a fun little project.  I'm using all scraps.  The purple is Queensland Collection Super Aussie from at least a decade ago.  The lavender is Cascade Heritage Silk from when I made my MIL a shawl again ages ago.  The pinkish redish in the middle is I think Noro Silk Garden, it didn't have a ball-band.  The chunky green is Happy Sheep Wool Print left over from my Permutation Hat and Mittens.  The Happy Sheep is a loosely spun single so its shedding already.  I grabbed quite a few yarns out of my scrap bin, so when I do another one of these I'm going to use the other chunky weight yarn I plucked out, which is a Manos del Uruguay yarn.  That's it for knitting.  I plan to sew something for this swap as well.  That's really it for me.  Reading has still been taking up all my free time, which is fine.

I put out quite a few Ravelry inquiries for Malabrigo Sock yarn for Aunt Jane's scarf/shawl.  I've gotten one hit so far out of 10 or 15.  I'm going to give it a few more days then just order which colors I want, I guess.  It took me months and months to get the original yarn because I wanted to use exclusively destash yarn.  It adds another layer to the challenge but it is much easier to just order exactly what I want.  Okay now that's it for me.

YOP: Week 36

I didn't get any crafting done this week.  I did receive my swap package from the My Favorite Things swap.  Here's what I received: An ample stack of fabric squares.  Most are knitting related, the rest coordinate well.  A book that looks interesting, The Vampire Knitting Club, one of my favorite candies, a skein of Alpaca yarn in a glorious color and cat chair feet.  My daughter commandeered a couple of them already.  I'm going to put a set on the clothes chair in the bedroom.  All in all it was a fun swap.  I also signed up for the Halloween Mini and got my partner assignment.  I've got some ideas brewing for that one.      Since my knitting mojo still hasn't returned despite the change in weather, I picked up a book (kindle) series instead.  About two years ago I read an excellent science fiction romance; The Viridian Priestess.  I know I talked about it.  It was my favorite boo...

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...

YOP: Week 52

As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025.  After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines.  When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns.  I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns.  I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible.  I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.     I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025.  I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition.  I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year.  So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025: - Butterfly--Papillon  with Urth Ya...
