YOP: Week 16

    I finished knitting That Nice Stitch Bandana.  I seamed it and got the ends woven in.  I need to wash and block it yet.  It looks snug in the neck area but it fits over my head fine and is cozy but not too tight around my neck.  This was a quick and fun knit, I highly recommend.

I haven't made anymore progress with my Killer Queen Cowl.  I'm going to seam it first then wash and block it, I think.  Then I can do both these cowls at the same time.

    I'm not sure what to knit next.  I have the yarn ready for the Butterfly Papillion; I also have the yarn ready for the 2023 LYS Day shawl from Art Yarns and yarn ready for yet another shawl....  I may need to do a dishcloth or two to get over this startopenia.

    The kids dyed eggs yesterday.  We used a "Superhero" kit and a "Galaxy" kit.  I've had these kits for a number of years now and the liquid dye that was in the Galaxy kit had crystalized.  We managed to incorporate it anyway.  The blue egg with the dark blue speckles is the result.

A long time ago in and egg far far away

    Just as I have in past years, once they were done with the dyes I used them to dye some yarn.  Many years ago I purchased a bag of mystery wool for $5 from a thrift store.  I've been slowly dyeing up bits of it every Easter.  I did the last chunk yesterday.  I wanted to try to make a long striping skein with this bit, so I used two kitchen chairs spread far apart to make a very long hank.  I soaked it in vinegar water while the kids did their eggs then hand painted it with the dye.  I steamed it to set the dye and then let it cool overnight.  I rinsed it when I got back from work today and its now drying.  The yarn started out as this:

I wanted the rainbow to be heavy on the blue and purple.  The kits didn't come with a purple so I used the pink mixed with a little blue to make the lavender portion.  Then I used some Wiltons Gel to make the darker purple portion.  It broke while steaming, but I like the effect.  I should have added some vinegar to that dye.  I really like how this came out; the yellow is much brighter than I was expecting.  I have no idea how I'm going to get this back into a skein.  I'm probably going to finally make myself a niddy-noddy out of PVC tubing.  

In other random good news.  My husband had decided to go back to work.  His old boss called him up and offered him whatever schedule he wanted.  He starts on the 28th, so I've put in my notice at my second job.  That's it for me.  Until later.
