YOP: Week 31

I finished the tote bag for my co-worker.  It turned out awesome.  I seriously thought about giving her the original one I made for myself and keeping this second one.

I had shown Nancy a selection of fabrics and let her pick which ones she wanted with the alpaca print.  I think her combo came out so nicely.  I finished everything up late in the evening, so the pictures are dark.  I also neglected to take a nice closeup of my fancy new tags.  I have two or three more bags planned out to do in the next couple weeks so hopefully I'll get a little better pictures.

I finished the dishcloth I was working on yesterday and started another.
Revenge of Dish Rag

Lizard Ridge

I'm changing colors for each short row section.  I'm going for a rainbow.  I need to find more black for the ridges in between.

I have another project I should really be doing instead.  I need to dig around and find the yarn intended for that one though.  Perhaps this afternoon I'll do a little organization.  I've got a busy week ahead of me.

I spent yesterday, my birthday, at my second job.  I had a pretty good shift overall.  I was able to catch up with a couple old friends as they messaged me happy birthday.  We have plans to celebrate this week among other things.  I did buy myself some fabric, a thread color I ran out of and some sewing notions when we were at Walmart earlier in the week.  I purchased some fabric at Walmart early in my sewing excursions and it was okay but not great.  I've heard that the precut quality may have improved in the interim so I thought I'd try some and see.  Walmart is closer and more convenient than the independently owned Quilt Shop, but I'd much rather support a small business instead, so I'm going to limit my purchases from Walmart, even if the quality is okay.

The deer hasn't been back in a little bit now.  The peas are starting to taper off and the beans are ramping up.  The corn is really coming along too.  I expect to be able to harvest sweet corn in another week or two.  I've also been able to pick a couple cherry tomatoes so that's fun too.

Until later, happy crafting.

  1. Love the discloths! As I'm visiting my friend, I can see she could really use some dishcloths. But sadly since she is unable to throw anything away, I know she won't replace her ragged dishcloth with a new one. What an amazing tote. Your pockets described last week sound amazing. I just love using project bags with fun fabrics. Hope you have fun continuing to celebrate your birthday this week.

  2. Happy Birthday! Sounds like you are going to have fun celebrating with friends. Your project bags are really nice. And pockets! That is the best part, isn't it. Since JoAnn's went out of business, I have Hobby Lobby and a local quilt shop for fabric. Not a lot of choices anymore. I know a lot of people order fabric offline but I like to 'feel' it before I buy it. Your dishcloths are pretty. I mean really pretty!!! Sounds like your garden is doing well. Hopefully the deer found another garden to graze.

  3. The finished bag is so cool looking - both in the fabric, and in the pockets. What a great gift! I only have Hobby Lobby and Walmart close to buy fabric from, and I find it to be a real mix of quality. A few prints are downright gorgeous, though, so it keeps me checking and occasionally buying.

  4. Happy happy birthday! I hope there was cake....and chocolate. Your dishcloths look great. Your totes are wonderful. I have a pattern for one...and three sewing machines....but haven't got around to that yet. Maybe during this YOP year!

  5. Happy birthday to you, sounds like you had a great day and I hope you got to celebrate with some cake. The dishcloths look great, in particular the rainbow one and the tote bag turned out just brilliant! Well done on a completed item. So glad to hear the deer seems to be finished visiting for lunch

YOP: Week 30 Lewis County Fair 24

I wanted to do a quick update about the Fair.  We kept it really low key this year.  I entered 10 items into the fair and we only went one day to just look around.  We refrained from rides and excessive amounts of fair food.  So, onto my entries: I entered: a sewn tote bag, which I think I blogged about a few weeks ago.  It got first place then went on to win Best in Show. Sewn Tote with Best in Show ribbon I also entered the beaded shawl I finished in June, that also won a blue ribbon and went on to receive Best in Show. Beaded Holden mixed among other Best in Show items Six of my other items also won blue ribbons: Liara's socks Mandy Cowl Killer Queen Cowl Clean Windmill Dishcloth set Sacket's Harbor Mittens and Drops of Spring Fingerless Mitts The second place ribbon I received for my Hum Beanie is also in this picture.  Then I received third place for Sunset Hat. The first and second place entries for this class are in this picture ...

YOP: Week 52

As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025.  After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines.  When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns.  I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns.  I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible.  I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.     I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025.  I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition.  I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year.  So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025: - Butterfly--Papillon  with Urth Ya...

YOP: Week 39

In anticipation of the Boo Knits MKAL starting on October 1st I got out my Dye For Yarn so I could wind it with my new yarn winder.  I quickly found that the winder I chose is a piece of crap.  The yarn guide doesn't stay in place and drops while winding which feeds the yarn directly into the open gears.  The spindle base also isn't large enough to accommodate 100 gram skeins.  It is nice and quiet and it didn't roll backward when I had to stop often because the yarn wasn't cooperating with me either.  The hank was extra twisted and crinkly in one spot so it kept getting stuck on itself and needed to be teased apart.  Overall it was a very negative winding experience.  I just went back to Amazon to read the reviews on the winder to see if it was just my winder.  Nope, each review said the same thing.  I'm not sure why I didn't think to read the reviews before I ordered this one, I usually do.  I have a different winde...
