YOP: Week 19

     I finished Killer Queen Cowl and That Nice Stitch Bandana.  I trimmed the ends and got final pictures today.

Both of these were made from Malabrigo Rios.  Killer Queen in the Pisces and Leo colorways and That Nice Stich in what I'm assuming is Indiecita.

    I've also overcome my knitters block, sort of.  I've started another Get a Shift On.  I have a multitude of Malabrigo Sock leftovers from several projects so I'm changing up several colors and doing another one.  When I took the progress photo today I realized its rather autumnal looking.  I'm debating my next color choices now.  I'm not sure if I should keep going as I had sort of planned or if I should stick to a more fall scheme.  

This is Eggplant as the main color, Lettuce as the CC1, Cameleon as CC2 and Terrecotta as CC1.  The Cameleon blends a little too much with the Eggplant but works well with the other contrasts.  I was going to move into tealish greens and then purple but now I'm wondering if I should stay on the orange and lime green side of things..... I may have to back burner this for  a little bit.

    I planted my garden this morning.  It took most of the day actually.  We finished getting soil for the beds yesterday and transplanted the rhubarb.  Then this morning Liara and I mixed some potting soil into the beds and then planted seeds.  It's actually still a bit early here to be direct sowing seeds.  It was chilly but sunny.  We'll see what comes up.  We planted lettuce, spinach, carrots, onions, eggplant, zucchini, corn, peas, beans, cucumbers, watermelon and some marigolds and zinnias to detract the bad bugs.  We're also trying out some "Topsy Turvy" grow bags for tomatoes this year.  We planted two tomato plants so far but plan to try some more vegetables once we get a few more Topsy Turvey's.  Later this week I plan to pick up a few more plants.  I'd like more tomatoes and some peppers. 

    I mentioned that the flowers from my grandmother estate are growing and blooming.  I'm happy to report all three of the bleeding hearts I took have in fact survived.  The first one, that I though died, must have just gone dormant from the stress of being transplanted at the incorrect time of year.  It's alive and even blooming now.  I'm glad I didn't plant something else in it's place like I had originally intended.  Here are some pictures:




I also need to weed and re-mulch this bed, I have almost as many weeds as flowers already.

    Your cowls turned out great. I like your shawl. I think it would look great either way. The planned colors sound very pretty as does the fall theme. You might get more wear though if it's not specifically autumn colors? Best wishes on your topsy turvy tomatoes. My neighbor had great results. I did not. But then I'm a pretty bad gardener.

    Those cowls are lovely. If it was me I would add in more colours, the yellowish green colour screams spring to me rather than autumn, but perhaps you have more trees that go that colour than we do here. So glad the transplanted plants survived. Liz (highlandheffalump)

YOP: Week 30 Lewis County Fair 24

      I wanted to do a quick update about the Fair.  We kept it really low key this year.  I entered 10 items into the fair and we only went one day to just look around.  We refrained from rides and excessive amounts of fair food.  So, onto my entries: I entered: a sewn tote bag, which I think I blogged about a few weeks ago.  It got first place then went on to win Best in Show. Sewn Tote with Best in Show ribbon I also entered the beaded shawl I finished in June, that also won a blue ribbon and went on to receive Best in Show. YOP: Week 39

     In anticipation of the Boo Knits MKAL starting on October 1st I got out my Dye For Yarn so I could wind it with my new yarn winder.  I quickly found that the winder I chose is a piece of crap.  The yarn guide doesn't stay in place and drops while winding which feeds the yarn directly into the open gears.  The spindle base also isn't large enough to accommodate 100 gram skeins.  It is nice and quiet and it didn't roll backward when I had to stop often because the yarn wasn't cooperating with me either.  The hank was extra twisted and crinkly in one spot so it kept getting stuck on itself and needed to be teased apart.  Overall it was a very negative winding experience.  I just went back to Amazon to read the reviews on the winder to see if it was just my winder.  Nope, each review said the same thing.  I'm not sure why I didn't think to read the reviews before I ordered this one, I usually do.  I have a different winde...

YOP: Week 52

      As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025.  After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines.  When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns.  I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns.  I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible.  I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.     I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025.  I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition.  I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year.  So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025: - Butterfly--Papillon  with Urth Ya...
