YOP: Week 18

Its been an eventful two weeks, not in a good way either.  I'm not really ready to go into all the details but the job my husband was supposed to start fell through.  I had already given notice at my second job, but a really great opportunity dropped into my lap instead.  More on that later.  My full time job is keeping me extra busy with a ton of new tasks and projects.  I'll be starting the validation process for yet another new instrument later this week.  (That's number three if anyone is keeping score.)

Sadly, I've gotten a case of knitters block or executive disfunction, whatever it should probably be called.  I want to knit, I just have so many potential projects at my disposal I start none of them instead.  I did seam Killer Queen Cowl yesterday, finally.  I also washed, partially dried and blocked both Killer Queen and That Nice Stitch Bandana.  They are both still drying.  Final pictures to come later.  Last weekend hubbs and I went to pick up some supplies for a couple of his never ending house projects so while we were there we picked up some 3/4 inch PVC, Ts and end caps.  He helped me cut the pieces and I assembled my very own Niddy-Noddy.  There is quite a bit of length left over so I can cut more sizes for the center as well to make longer or shorter hanks as well.  Excuse the terrible photo but here she is:

The center is 18 inches which gives me a 62 inch hank circumference.  That's the widest my current swift can accommodate so I'll probably do a 12 inch center shaft as well and then a 4 foot one to make super long hanks for my various dying experiments.  I used this immediately to re-hank my rainbow easter yarn.

The colors came out so bright and fun looking.  I want to find a project and knit some of this up pronto.  I want to see if it actually is self-striping like I intended.  Even if its not, I think it came out awesome and should be fun to knit.

My husband has been building me some boxes for raised beds.  Its been rainy and dreary here but we hope to fill the beds with soil and start planting seeds within the next couple weeks.  I also have some rhubarb plants to put in a permanent bed and my mother has some strawberry plants for me to transplant to a permanent bed.

That's more or less it for me.  The tulips from Grandma's estate are blooming, I wound up with yellow, orange and a mauvy orange color.  I'm interesting in seeing what the other ones wind up being.  They are further behind, since I just put them in the ground a few weeks ago; they may not bloom this year.

Until later.

  1. I used to have a bed of Asiatic Lilies. It was so weird how they bloomed by color. I remember the red ones always bloomed last. Hmm, I should try to plant those bulbs again. I miss them. Your rainbow yarn is so beautiful and definitely deserves a special project. I'm sorry about your hubby's job. My DIL just called today to tell me that the online school that she has been teaching for announced today they were closing immediately.

  2. That’s beautiful yarn. I’m sorry about your husband’s job opportunity, hopefully things will turn around soon and you won’t need a second job going forward. Liz

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...

YOP: Week 52

As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025.  After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines.  When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns.  I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns.  I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible.  I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.     I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025.  I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition.  I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year.  So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025: - Butterfly--Papillon  with Urth Ya...

YOP: Week 35

Not much to report this week.  I didn't do much crafting.  I finished the swap, got it packaged up and mailed out.  It should have arrived to my recipient yesterday.  I'll share what I made.  The theme was Favorite Things.  She likes the colors pale yellow and deep dark red and dragons, so I went all out with the dragons.  I chose  Dragon Scale Mitts  for the handmade item.  I used Madeline Tosh Sport in the Tart colorway.   My camera doesn't really do this colorway justice.  It has more depth in real life.  I think they came out nicely though. I was able to find dragon fabric at The Quilt Shop.  I made a reversible project bag. I paired each dragon fabric with one of her favorite colors.  Liara really liked the dragon fabric as well.  I'm probably going to get some more when I go again.  I also sent some stationary items and a bunch of Swedish Fish, which were also things she had req...
