Song of Sorrows and Fate

5 🌟, 3 🌶
I finished Song of Sorrows and Fate by LJ Andrews Thursday evening.  This was book nine, the final book, in The Broken Kingdoms series.  It was a very good conclusion to a very very good series.  As I predicted in my last post when I was only one chapter in, there was a fair amount of carnage.  At least one side character from each realm perished.  The one that hit hardest for me was the one I mentioned.  There was also a death of a main character but I knew about that plot point from The Ever King, so I knew his death wasn't permanent.  Overall this book tied up all the loose ends and set up the "spin off" series very nicely.  The pacing was a little more jaunted because there were pivotal events happening in several places at once.  The book was broken up into sections to take this into account.  I rather liked that setup.  We also got POVs from a few of the sides characters which I also liked.
I think my favorite book from the series was book eight; Reign of Stars and Fire.  Overall the series was excellent.  LJ is one of my favorite authors and this entire series sits in my top three favorite of all time.  Good enough, I want physical copies, if I'm stranded on a desert island I want this with my type reads.  If anyone is looking for spicy loose fairytale retelling, mildly dark fantasy, romance, with Vikings reads get on this series.  It starts out slow and mild and then builds up to be a powerhouse of writing.  It's been a fun two years getting through all of them.

I wasn't quite ready to leave the Broken Kingdoms world yet so I started reading These Wicked Lies.  This is a novella about Halvar and Kari.  It takes place in and amongst the events of book two or three.  There are a couple more of these novellas that tie in other side character stories.  I plan to read all of them.  I'm nearly done with this one; it's a little over 100 pages.  I especially like Halvar so I'm enjoying this and it's a fun look back to all these characters when they were at the beginning of the series.

YOP: Week 37

I didn't do any crafting what so ever this past week.  We had my parents and brother over for lunch on Sunday.  I cooked up some of the green beans from my garden that I had frozen.  They were very good.  We had a nice meal and it got one of the two turkeys out of the freezer.  When I was going to work Friday morning I noticed one of our neighbors had put a fridge or stand-up freezer out by the road with a free sign on it.  I called my husband immediately and told him where I had seen it.  He grabbed it right away.  It's an upright freezer from probably the 60s or 70s so it's solid.  We put it in the garage and moved the few things that were left in the "middle" chest to that one so the chest freezer could be defrosted and cleaned.  We're still waiting for the new one we ordered from Lowe's.  They know its been shipped but have no idea where it is.  At one point they thought it was in Pennsylvania; then they thoug...

YOP: Week 36

I didn't get any crafting done this week.  I did receive my swap package from the My Favorite Things swap.  Here's what I received: An ample stack of fabric squares.  Most are knitting related, the rest coordinate well.  A book that looks interesting, The Vampire Knitting Club, one of my favorite candies, a skein of Alpaca yarn in a glorious color and cat chair feet.  My daughter commandeered a couple of them already.  I'm going to put a set on the clothes chair in the bedroom.  All in all it was a fun swap.  I also signed up for the Halloween Mini and got my partner assignment.  I've got some ideas brewing for that one.      Since my knitting mojo still hasn't returned despite the change in weather, I picked up a book (kindle) series instead.  About two years ago I read an excellent science fiction romance; The Viridian Priestess.  I know I talked about it.  It was my favorite boo...

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...
