I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap. I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown. I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time. They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection. They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much. I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee. I really wasn't expecting to find what I did. I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart. The Walmart fabric was acceptable. Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them. I finished the handknit earlier today. I want to steam block it yet, but the overall crafting is done. I ordered yarn a couple weeks ago and that has arrived along with a couple other goodies. I need to get everything boxed up and mailed out. Once it reaches it's recipient I'll share pictures of what I made.
One of the Nerdopolis challenges this month is to utilize paper for a craft. I've been wanting to try English paper piecing so I printed out a free template. Butterfly Block I might try that out this week. I keep all my little scraps, so if this isn't annoyingly fiddley; paper piecing may be a good way to use those up.
I really don't have much to report this week. All my craft time went into the swap and the rest of my free time was trying to keep up with the garden. I picked a couple heirloom tomatoes. I ate one today incorporated into my blackened shrimp and rice bowl, which was amazing. The tomato really hit the spot. I have a couple more out there ripening but I only had the one plant so that'll be it. I've blanched and frozen quite a few bags of green beans and I've been cutting off and freezing the sweet corn. Speak of which, I should go out there and see if there are more corn and beans ready to go. I got a corn gadget and I really like it. It's and OXO which is one of my favorite kitchen tool companies.
I got it from Amazon for less than 10 bucks and it works really well. Alright, that's it for me. Off to go check the garden. Until next week; happy crafting.

I love OXO brand kitchen tools. they are well made and so helpful. I discovered them a few years ago and that is all I buy now.
ReplyDeleteHow did you get connected to your swapee? I did a swap once years ago right before Covid. Sadly Covid really messed things up and I believe the person that ran it no longer does it. It was fun but truthfully more of a hassle so I wasn't planning to do it again anyway. What a great tool for freezing fresh corn. Brings back memories of my childhood as my dad always had a HUGE garden that provided most of our vegetables for the winter as well as the summer. Spent lots of time shucking pea pods and snapping beans to be blanched and frozen.
