Shot in the Dark and November Wrap-Up

5★

Shot in the Dark by Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley.  I enjoyed this book immensely.  It was based on the world of Supernatural.  The main character Sylvia is a fairy and the two MMCs were the hunters Jon and Cliff.  The characterization of Jon and Cliff were absolutely spot on for Sam and Dean.  Sylvia lives in a fairy settlement that's hidden by both physical location and glamour.  Sylvia is a free spirit and disobeys the rules by leaving the boundaries of the settlement to explore a nearby abandoned human mansion.  There she interacts with a ghost and eventually humans.  Jon and Cliff capture her and then once she reveals she has magic she accompanies them on their current hunt for a werewolf.  Jon is injured in an encounter and Sylvia uses her magic to heal him but it takes more power than she can conjure which results in a tenuous blood bond between her and Jon.  The blood bond complicates everything, I don't want to reveal too much but saving Jon's life puts Sylvia's in danger and the bond forces them to stay in fairly close proximity.  They both start catching feelings for each other.  There is no spice in this book, there is some closed door romance at the beginning between Sylvia and another fairy.  There is some on page kissing near the end of the book.  Being that Jon and Cliff are hunters there is some blood, gore and killing when it comes to the werewolf.  But for anyone who is a fan of Supernatural this will all be par for the course so to speak.  As I said I absolutely loved this book.  I laughed out loud in several places.  The writers did a great job of embodying Sam and Dean.  I could hear Jared and Jensen's voices in my head as I read this and "Cliff" had some great Dean snark.  The relationship that develops between Cliff and Sylvia felt a lot like the relationship between Dean and Charlie.  This ended with quite a few questions about Sylvia's past and family.  I'm pretty sure I know what happened to her father and I'm intrigued to find out in the next book.

I will be reading Scythe and Sparrow next because I've been borrowing the Ruinous Love series from a co-worker.  I like to get through them and back to her in a timely fashion.

Above is my November reading wrap up.  I found the calendar feature too which I thought was interesting to see which books on which dates I read over the course of the month.  I'm really enjoying Story Graph.  Story Graph also has a ton of read challenges that one can join.  I've been doing a few but now that it's December many challenges that will run the totality of 2026 have come out.  I've entered into quite a few.  I find having goals to meet stimulates me to read on a daily basis even if its just a few pages.  I'm also part of the 52 Books is 52 Weeks group on Ravelry which is great motivation.  It also gives me another place to keep track of what I've read.  Happy reading.

YOP: Week 36

I didn't get any crafting done this week.  I did receive my swap package from the My Favorite Things swap.  Here's what I received: An ample stack of fabric squares.  Most are knitting related, the rest coordinate well.  A book that looks interesting, The Vampire Knitting Club, one of my favorite candies, a skein of Alpaca yarn in a glorious color and cat chair feet.  My daughter commandeered a couple of them already.  I'm going to put a set on the clothes chair in the bedroom.  All in all it was a fun swap.  I also signed up for the Halloween Mini and got my partner assignment.  I've got some ideas brewing for that one.      Since my knitting mojo still hasn't returned despite the change in weather, I picked up a book (kindle) series instead.  About two years ago I read an excellent science fiction romance; The Viridian Priestess.  I know I talked about it.  It was my favorite boo...

YOP: Week 34

I did some crafting this week, but it was all for the swap.  I was nearly out of interfacing so I ran over to The Quilt Shop in Watertown.  I'd been there once a couple of years ago and thought their prices were very good considering they are independent and Joanne and Hobby Lobby were both in Watertown at the time.  They have really expanded and have a tremendous selection.  They have more novelty type fabrics now, which is what I prefer for my bags, so I will be going there much more often.... probably too much.  I got interfacing and I found two prints that were perfect for my swapee.  I really wasn't expecting to find what I did.  I sewed a bag with those two prints and two of the fabrics I picked up from Walmart.  The Walmart fabric was acceptable.  Not groundbreaking, but decent enough that if I find cute prints I'll probably grab them.  I finished the handknit earlier today.  I want to steam block it yet, ...

YOP: Week 52

As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025.  After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines.  When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns.  I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns.  I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible.  I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.     I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025.  I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition.  I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year.  So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025: - Butterfly--Papillon  with Urth Ya...
