As the year comes to a close, I've been looking at my queue and starting to plan out a few projects for 2025. After having to cold sheep for the majority of this past year, I'm going into next year with some guidelines. When I purchase yarn, I really want to stick to purchasing for specific patterns. I took advantage of Miss Babs annual gratitude sale and purchased specifically for two patterns. I also want to continue to knit from stash whenever possible. I have paired up yarn with patterns for several and they've been moved up in my queue.
I'll have more time, so I plan to participate in several swaps in 2025. I'll be getting yarn from these so I'm going to try to stick to swaps only for "unplanned" stash acquisition. I have several carry-over projects I didn't get to this year, which seems to be a theme every year. So tentatively this is my meager list for 2025:
-Butterfly--Papillon with Urth Yarns Harvest and Uneek both in Fingering. Yarn already sorted.
-Holding-Hands-Mittens with Lion Brand Heartland. This is a commission from a friend at work. Yarn is already sorted.
-Shoots-n-Ladders-Hat for another co-worker who is pregnant. I plan to use Lion Brand Heartland for this as well unless I find out she would like wool, in which case I'll probably use Mal Rios.
-Vasama carry-over pattern. Mal Arroyo in Purpuras for Liara.
-Killer-Queen-Cowl Mal Rios in Leo and Pisces, ordered.
-Turnstile This will be number three and possibly number four. I like them. I have several skeins of Mal Mechita I plan to use and probably a couple more to get. I've been getting yarn through Rav destashes for these.
-Blue-Ridge-Cowl Miss Babs Yowza Mini. Yarn ordered. I went with colors extremely similar to the sample as that combo is what attracted me to the pattern in the first place.
-DRK-Everyday-Cowl Miss Babs Yowza Mini for this as well. I went with a neutral with some speckles and a tonal greenish blue. I still may try this in a fade with Mal Sock too.
-Unicorn-Cowl Cloudborn Fibers Alpaca Sport and Passion Yarns Minis for sure. I'm going to throw in some Mal Sock in some bright colors too. I may do a predominantly blue one for Liara too if I like this.
I have several more shawls in the queue paired with yarn that I would use as scarves, and I still want to do the hexagonal modular blanket. I need to get some more yarn for that. If I listed all those my list would be kind of long. I think this is a good start. I also have a few sewing projects I'd like to tackle. I got four bolts of flannel fabric so I can sew some pajama pants for the kids. I've never sewn clothes so this will be an entirely new skill to learn. I also want to make myself some more project bags. Yes, I have a ton, but I use them and I enjoy making them. I decided to throw together another little movie of all the projects I did in the last few months. These are all the ones I finished since the last movie and there aren't many because I was focused on school.
Oh, Oh, I LOVE the rainbow sock yarn. I hope your son loves it too. Best wishes on keeping yarn paired to patterns. That's the way I started but somehow I still have six years of projects in my stash!! My next tee cast-on will be the Sailor Swift Tee and I'm using Miss Babs Sojourn for the stripes. It was a splurge. I have the Butterfly cowl in my '25 plan but as a "if I have time". I want to knit it for my stepdaughter but it may be too far down the list to get knit. That's what happened this year. It is a beautiful pattern!! I'll live vicariously through you.
ReplyDeleteMy stash is a bit crazy, so I'm going to try something a little different this year. My son is already pretty stoked about the socks. He keeps asking me if they're done yet every time I put them down.
DeleteWhat wonderful plans. Love the socks for your son. My young adult daughter has finally asked me to knit socks for her. I am on it!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting. I love when the kids ask me to make things for them.
DeleteI wish you well with your yarn aims. Your reasoning seems sound and well thought out, and some lovely projects planned. The socks are very fun. Do you know what you’d be getting with a yarn swap or is it a mystery. I couldn’t deal with receiving yarn I didn’t like. Liz (Highlandheffalump)
ReplyDeleteThe swaps are more or less a total mystery. We list our preferences color and finer wise, after that it's up to our partner. I have gotten some really lovely yarn I probably would have never tried myself so I have to say the surprise is worth it for me.
DeleteOoohhh, that sock! The brighter the better for the long boring winter days. Although, I can not complain about our winter here. Still in the mid 70s. You have some very lovely patterns picked for next year. It will be fun to see the colors you choose to use in them. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors in that sock! Looks like you have some great patterns for your stash. I look forward to seeing your projects! ~Jen @ Carolina Tales
