I've been quite busy but unfortunately not with knitting. I have managed to finish my Always be Brave. I even got it blocked which flattened out the i-Cord bindoff that wanted to roll. We've gotten our first major snowfall of the season; the final tally was three feet where I live. Our second snowstorm is in full blast right now. I wore this for several days and unfortunately, it's a little too scratchy to wear for any length of time. If I wear it on my short drive to work, it's okay. I really enjoyed the pattern though, so I'm on the lookout for softer yarn so I can make another one.
I've been wearing my Killer Queen Cowl this week. When I first made it, I wasn't sure about the style and if I'd like it. Now that I'm actually using it, I really like it. It's soft and the neck area is long so I can pull it up to surround the back of my neck or my face if I need to. I have a few other cowls in my queue that are the same bandana style, and Killer Queen was a fun pattern. There might be another one on the horizon soon.
I joined a swap in the Nerdy Swap Group because I don't already have enough to do. It's one of my favorite swap themes so I really wanted to do it. I'm done with the handmade item, I sewed an item, and I've purchased some other items as well. It's a secret swap though, so no more hints from me until it's done at the end of December. I need to purchase yarn for this swap as well so I'm really hoping I can make it down to Syracuse in person to pick out yarn at Yarn Cupboard.
Our heat has been fixed. The new system is working great. (More than great actually, it's very warm in the house now.) My car cropped up some more problems but is fixed. If I can make it through the storm, I'll be picking it up after work today.
I've been plugging away at my two classes. I'm in the home stretch now, I only have the final for each class next week. Then I'm taking a break, which I'm really looking forward to. My second job is going well. I'm still in training but it's been a nice change to see another lab and meet some new people. The extra money has also been very welcome.
We hosted Thanksgiving this year. We deep fried the turkey. It turned out really really well. We used the XL Masterbuilt electric frier that I traded my friend Eric a loaf of bread for last year. It's the best deal I've made in a long time. I don't think we'll be going back to oven roasted turkey. I used the bread machine Challa recipe to make rolls, which also turned out very well. It seems to be a very versatile recipe. I think it would also make nice cinnamon rolls.
We're doing a secret Santa gift exchange at work. I'm hoping to be able to crank out a handknit this weekend. We'll see if I can get it done. Our party is Thursday and I need to make food Wednesday for it. That's all I've really been up to lately. We've gotten some new equipment at work. I'll be one of the "super users" for the automated Blood Bank instrument we just received. I've worked on this instrument at several other hospitals, so I have quite a bit of experience with it. ReplyDeleteGoodness you indeed are extremely busy!! Hope it brings you lots of joy. That is a beautiful shawl pattern. Too bad the yarn turned out to be scratchy. Sometimes yarn gets softer with wear and washing. Congrats on completing your classes. I know my son's girlfriend is looking forward to this spring being her final semester. Plus it's her student teaching semester so only one online class. Then it's pull on big girl panties and join the adult world of working 5 days a week all year (well, not all year for teachers).
